Thank You for Smoking is a movie that explores the world of tobacco lobbying and the ethical dilemmas that arise in such an industry. The movie follows the life of Nick Naylor, a spokesperson for the Academy of Tobacco Studies, as he navigates his way through the complex world of PR and lobbying.

The movie begins by introducing Nick Naylor as a smooth-talking, charming man who is a master of spin. Nick's job is to defend the tobacco industry, and he is very good at it. He uses his wit and charm to sway public opinion and politicians to his side, even as he battles the negative perception of smoking.

One of the central ethical dilemmas in the movie is Nick's role as a lobbyist for the tobacco industry. As a representative of the industry, Nick has to defend the right of people to smoke, even as he acknowledges that smoking is harmful to health. Nick is aware of the fact that smoking is a dangerous habit, but he believes that people should have the right to choose whether or not they want to smoke. This stance puts him at odds with public health officials who are fighting to ban smoking in public places.

Another ethical dilemma in the movie arises when Nick is approached by a Hollywood producer who wants to pay him to promote smoking in a movie. Nick knows that promoting smoking in a movie is wrong, but he is tempted by the money and the opportunity to further his career. In the end, Nick decides to take the job, even though he knows that it goes against his principles.

The movie also touches on the ethical dilemma of advertising. Nick is aware of the fact that advertising is a powerful tool that can be used to sway public opinion, but he believes that it is not his job to decide what people should or should not do. He sees himself as a facilitator of information, and he believes that people should be free to make their own decisions.

If I were in Nick Naylor's shoes, I would not have been as outwardly driven as he was. On a topic that can become a political and ethical issue such as the tobacco industry, making a face and reputation of yourself as big as Naylor did only leads to an explosion of a downfall. In these specific industries, the vices, it is important to remain as publicly hidden as possible.
